A Closer Look at Charlotte's Top Farmers Markets

Buying local is more than a trend. It's great for the economy and often means you get a fresher product.

Charlotte is home to many farmers markets offering plenty of fresh produce and other items. With more than 30 farmers markets in the area, just about everybody can find one nearby.

When you're searching for fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade bread, local artisan cheese and other food products, you need to know where to go. Here's a look at the best farmers markets found throughout Charlotte.

The NoDa Farmers Market

A great choice for customers to connect directly with local farmers, the NoDa Farmers Market offers plenty of local items, such as fresh bread, mushrooms and cheese. They even have a list of recipes you can check out before you shop.

The market is located at the NoDa Company Store at 3221 Yadkin Avenue in Charlotte. It's open every Saturday from 9am to 12pm.

Mint Hill Farmers Market

If you live in the Mint Hill area, you will want to check out the unique Mint Hill Farmers Market. This is a historic site found in the Carl J. McEwen Historical Village. The market carries all types of locally grown foods, along with baked goods, native plants and even some home furnishings.

The Mint Hill Farmers Market is found at 7601 Matthews Mint Hill Road and it's open from 9am to 1pm on Saturdays from May to October.

Providence Produce Markets

There are actually five Providence Produce Markets in the Charlotte area. These markets offer all types of inexpensive fresh produce and they even donate fruits and vegetables to organizations throughout Charlotte.

The Providence Produce Markets include:

  • Providence Road Market - 10636 Providence Road, Charlotte, Open from 9am to 7pm, Monday through Saturday
  • Rockstore Market - 3116 Old Monroe Road, Matthews, Open from 9am to 7pm, Monday through Saturday
  • Providence South - 1316 Providence Road South, Waxhaw, Open 9am to 7pm, seven days a week
  • Indian Trail Hub - 1402 Waxhaw Indian Trail Road, Indian Trail, Open from 8:30am to 3pm, Monday through Friday

Charlotte Regional Farmers Market

Operated by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market is one of the largest in the area. It takes over five buildings with all types of options from local produce to meats to dairy products and so much more.

The Charlotte Regional Farmers Market is held at 1801 Yormont Road in Southwest Charlotte. The market is open Tuesday through Saturday from 8am to 5pm.

Matthews Community Farmers Market

The Matthews Community Farmers Market is one of the largest and one of the most diverse in the area. It's a producers-only market with plenty to buy and enjoy. Live music provides the entertainment while you shop for gourmet coffee, artisan jams, fresh produce and even unique items, such as duck eggs. There are often cooking demonstrations at this farmers market to enjoy.

The Matthews Community Farmers Market is held on Saturdays from 8am to 12pm in downtown Matthews. It will be open through November.

Kings Drive Farmers Market  

A very long-running farmers market dating back to 1941, the Kings Drive Farmers Market offers plenty of great produce items, along with fresh-cut local flowers and plenty more. They also carry pumpkins during Halloween and Christmas trees during the holiday season.

The Kings Drive Farmers Market is found in Midtown at 938 South Kings Street. It's open from 8am to 8pm on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 6am to 6pm on Tuesday and from 6am to 8pm on Friday.

Davidson Farmers Market

Plenty of fresh produce is found at the Davidson Farmers Market. There are several vendors with great items, such as eggs and honey, as well. This farmers market holds special events with live music often, as well.

The Davidson Farmers Market is found next to Davison Town Hall between Jackson and Main Streets.  It's held every Saturday from 8am to 12pm.

Cotsworth Farmers Market

Another producer-only farmers market with plenty of fresh produce and local items, the Cotsworth Farmers Market offers plenty of options. It's a great spot with jazzy music playing and a welcoming atmosphere.

The Cotsworth Farmers Market is located at 309 South Sharon Amity in Charlotte. The market is held on Saturdays from May 5th to October 27th from 9am to 12pm.

Old Town Market

A great option for those in the Rock Hill area looking for local produce, the Old Town Market offers plenty of handmade items, along with fruits, vegetables and other items. They have live music and plenty of activities for children, as well.

The Old Town Market is held at 300 East Main Street in Rock Hill. It's open every Thursday and Saturday from June through August

Downtown Pineville Farmers Market  

A great choice starting in May and running through the fall, the Downtown Pineville Farmers Market offers plenty of local produce, handmade crafts and baked goods. The market is held in the Pineville Police Department Parking lot found at 300 Main Street in Pineville. It's held every Saturday from 8am to 12pm.
